
Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24 1977) is an American actress and producer. She is known for her role in films with feminist themes, she has been awarded numerous awards such as an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine named her one the 100 most influential individuals worldwide in 2012. Chastain was drawn to acting as a child and made her stage debut in 1998 in Shakespeare's Juliet. After her studies in acting at Juilliard School, she was offered a talent contract with John Wells. She was a frequent guest on several television shows and played parts in various stage productions. Her film debut came in Jolene (2008) when she was 31 years old. In 2011, Chastain achieved her breakthrough with six film releases which included The Tree of Life (2011), Take Shelter (2011), and The Tree of Life (2012). Chastain received Academy Award nominations for playing an aspiring socialite in the period drama The Help (2011) and a CIA analyst in the action thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were commercially more successful. Chastain received further acclaim for her portrayals of strong-willed women in the dramas A Very violent Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), and Molly's Game (2017), as well as the mini-series on television Scenes from a Marriage (2021). In the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (1921) she played Tammy Faye Bakker. She won the Academy Award as Best Actress. Tammy Wynette was the miniseries George & Tammy (222). Chastain is the creator of the production company Freckle Films, which was established to encourage diversity in film, and is an investor in the soccer team Angel City FC. She is vocal about mental health issues, as well as gender and racial equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo is her husband.
